Christmas decor is all put away, so now what? The after Christmas decorating rut is a real thing because now your home seems so empty and boring. Do not fret my friends. The new year is the perfect time to give your home that refresh that it needs. Today, I thought I would give you a few tips on how to decorate after Christmas and make your home feel refreshed!
1. Add Real Plants To Your Decor
Now that the trees are all put away, this is the perfect time to get yourself some real plants to replace them with. Real plants add a life to a space..literally. They have so many advantages but my favorite is that real plants look so beautiful and add color to your decor. If you are a beginner like I once was, you can check out my 5 favorite house plants for beginners to give you an idea of what is in my home.
Just look how beautiful and lively real plants look on my open shelves! I promise you will love adding in real plant decor to your after Christmas decorating.
2. Add Something New
This new item that you add to your decor can be from thrifted or new, but it feels good to go out and find one new piece of decor that inspires you to give a space a new look. This weekend, I picked up this extra large wall basket was only $30, and I love how it looks on my living room shelf. That one new piece of decor can be inexpensive or a splurge but I know it will get you excited to start fresh.
3. Wash Sofa Cushions and Pillows
After Christmas is the perfect time to also give your sofa a new life as well. I have Ektorp Sofas in my living room, so stripping them down and washing the slipcovers feels so good. Even if you don’t have a slipcover sofa, this is a great time to spot clean, vacuum, and lint roll your sofas.
4. Change Things Around
After the new year is a perfect time to shop your own home. Change lamps to a different spot, switch your pictures and mirrors around, and even add layers like books to a space. Don’t get fixated on keeping something in the same spot just because it has always been there. Switching home decor items around will help give them a new life in a new space.
5. Dust and Deep Clean
After I put all of my Christmas decor away, I did a deep clean on my house. It felt SO good to start 2021 with a clean home. I’m sure you do this anyways but making a point to really take everything out and dust will help you feel so much better. I also swept, vacuumed, and mopped my entire home and the clean smell just made me happy.A clean home just makes you feel good to start decorating fresh for the new year.
I hope you enjoyed these simple tips on how to decorate after Christmas. Your home will feel refreshed and ready for the new year!
