Who else loves herbs? We love planting herbs every year around here. It’s just something fun that my family loves to do, and bonus, we use them all the time! We typically plant them in pots and set them on a potting bench which was great, but this year, I wanted to mix it up a bit. We got a new covered porch last summer, and I no longer had room to put a potting bench under it. One thing that I did have was wall space. I thought it would be fun to hang them on the wall and also use them as a pretty piece of decor under my porch. Guys, this DIY was so SIMPLE, and I love how it turned out. Let me walk you though how I made it and show you how you can make one for yourself!!
So let’s begin with what you need to do this project. Note, I already had this old chippy trellis, but you can find some new ones linked at the bottom of this post or you can even make your own.
Materials
1. Trellis (I had an old trellis already but you can find some new ones linked at the bottom)
2. Spray Paint (optional)
3. Pots (I found mine at Joann)
4. Plant Rack
5. Drill and Screws
6. Herbs, Plants, or Flowers
Step 1- Paint the Trellis
So this step might not be necessary if you have a new trellis. I decided to use an old chippy trellis that I had bought at a barn sale a few years back. Although I obviously love chippy pieces, I wanted a more clean look for my outdoor space, so I decided to paint it white. I first sanded down the chippy paint as much as I could and then sprayed it with 2 coats of spray paint.
Looks like new!!
Step 2- Drill in Pot Racks
I needed to first decide how many pots I wanted on my trellis. I could have done 6 or 8, but I decided to not overload my trellis and do 6. I first measured so my pot racks would all be even and then drilled them in. So simple!! This step took me about 20 minutes.
Step 3- Plant Your Herbs and Hang Them Up
I told you this was easy. That was all I did to make my wall herb garden! The last step was securing it to the wall. I simply drilled a screw into the brick and the back of the trellis and connected the two with wire.
I also added the cutest herb makers that I am in love with!
See, isn’t that a fun option for your mini garden? The best part is that you don’t have to plant herbs. It can be flowers or your favorite plants. I love that it looks like a beautiful piece of decor for your outdoor space. I can’t even tell you how much I love this piece. I finished it off with a cute sign at the top to give it some character.
So guys, I hope this simple DIY motivates you to get out there and plant a small wall garden of your own. It really is as simple as it looks!! Don’t forget to check out the links below and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!
