An opportunity presented itself to me a few months ago that sounded like so much fun. A friend of mine, who’s house I helped decorate a few years ago, asked me if I could help her decorate a home that she bought in Boone, North Carolina. This mountain home will act as a family getaway for her family along with being an Airbnb. It was a dreamy house located in the Appalachian Mountains that needed to be brought to life. Our goal was to play off the beautiful outdoor surroundings by adding earth tones with a mix of modern and rustic elements. I had so much fun helping bring this home to life, and I can’t wait to share with you how this mountain house makeover turned out!
Mountain House Inspiration Board
Before I share the makeover, here is the design board that we came up with. This beautiful rug set the tone for the colors of the home. We went with grays, rust, and creams mixed with black metal accents. The goal was to add simple elements to the inside in order to allow the outdoor landscape to be the star of the home. I hope you love how it tuned out as much as I do!
Mountain House Living Room
The living room is the focal point of the entire home. When you walk in, you immediately notice the huge windows showcasing the beautiful trees and landscape. It honestly feels like you are in a treehouse. The first step was to lighten up the walls. We went with the color Pure White by Sherwin Williams. That gave us a clean slate to start adding furniture and accessories.
Rug Details
Like I said earlier, this beautiful rug is called the Rosman and it drove the entire inspiration of this room. We fell in love with the subtle colors and distressed pattern. We carried the rust, grays, and creams into the sofa and pillows. This color combination is so beautiful, and I believe was perfect for a home snuggled in the mountains.
To add texture and comfort, we went with this leather ottoman instead of a coffee table. Love the black metal legs and tufted details. It really added that modern touch that we wanted for this room.
This entertainment center was the perfect way to add that rustic touch.
Since Boone, North Carolina is a popular location for skiing and hiking, we wanted to personalize it while showing off its beauty. My friend had taken a lot of photos of the landscape so she printed them out using Mixed Tiles, and I am obsessed with how this space came together. Anytime you can use your own personal experience to decorate makes it so much more spacial.
This home also has a wood burning fireplace for those cold snowy nights!
Mountain House Kitchen
The kitchen had already been redone so all we needed to do was to add some paint, lighting, and hardware. The color is Pure White by Sherwin Williams. Instead of adding a backsplash, I thought a darker color would be the perfect way to make the shelves and white dishes pop. The color of the backsplash is called Peppercorn by Sherwin Williams.
To add extra seating in the kitchen area, we added this rustic table and black chairs to the back wall. Now, it’s the perfect space for the kid’s to enjoy their meals at without having to use the dining room.

Did I mention this cute home is called The Hibernation Station? It really is that perfect getaway no matter what time of the year you want to visit. I had the pleasure of staying here with my family after I was finished the project, and it was such an awesome weekend filled with skiing, exploring, games, and overall just relaxing family time.
