You guys!!! I’m so giddy about this post today because it means I can finally share my bonus room makeover reveal that I did with Overstock! Eeeek!! I had so much fun making over this space and turning into something that my entire family can enjoy. Before I get started with the reveal, I wanted to share with you my WHY. Why did I want to give this room a fresh look? Well, the simple answer is that this room quickly became the leftovers room. It collected all of our old furniture and accessories from our previous homes, and it was time to give this family room the attention that it deserved. After a couple months of on and off work, it is finally finished, and I can’t wait for you to see the transformation. Before I start sharing the changes, let’s start with the before. It’s always a good place to start so you can see how far this space has come!
Before
As you can see, it had good bones but just needed a little love. It was super dark and filled with oversized furniture that dominated the room. My goal was to find smaller, lighter, and super functional items to give it a brand new look. I hope you love the end results as much as we do!!
Bonus Room Reveal With Overstock
And here is how it looks NOW!! Pretty big change, huh?! It went from dark and dingy to light and bright, and I love the end result thanks to the help of Overstock! The first step was getting the room brighter, so I painted it Alabaster White by SW. You can see more of my favorite paint colors HERE. Just getting the room lighter made a huge difference. The next step was finding smaller furniture that was pretty and functional. I decided on this gorgeous tufted chase sofa from Overstock. We love this sofa and the color is exactly what I was wanting to give it a softer and lighter feel in here.
I also added this grey and ivory wool rug to the center of the room. I love the texture that this rug added to the space, and it is the softest rug ever!! My kids approve 100%! Such a great neutral choice for our family room!
I also added this beautiful rattan round coffee table that matched the baskets on my bookshelf perfectly. I love the grey tones in this table. Another bonus to this coffee table is that it’s round so no sharp corners for my toddler. It’s also fairly light to pick up so when my older kids want to make a pallet in the floor (which happens all the time), it can easily be moved out of the way. I think this coffee table really tied the whole room together!
The next item that was a must have were these oversized wood tone lamps from Overstock, and it’s safe to say that I’m obsessed with these!! Aren’t they just so beautiful? Now that my sofa is smaller, I had room to add them to either side of the sofa and love the way they look in the room. I highly recommend these lamps not only because they are so beautiful but because of the cozy factor. Lamp light is kinda my favorite!
I also brought in texture through pillows. These shaggy throw pillows are large, soft, and so pretty!! They also make great floor pillows for my kids which is another reason we love them.
This side of the room took on a ton of changes too! I decided to go with a fun gallery wall above my tufted arm chair, and I do believe I created such a fun and peaceful place to read, watch TV, or do a little work. Actually, I’m sitting here now writing this post, and I LOVE chair so much!!

Do you notice anything different about my book shelves? I decided they looked incomplete the way that they were. I had my dad help me add a strip of wood and some trim to make room for some lighting, and it turned out even better than I had expected. Look for a blog post all about my built-ins coming soon!
Big high-five if you made it through all those photos, but I think you needed to see how far this room has come! We are head over heels in love with our new family room. I sometimes can’t believe it is the same room. It’s amazing what hard work, a little vision, and some gorgeous furniture and accessories from Overstock can do to a space!
