Hello friends and thanks for stopping by! I’m so excited to finally have a place to share all of my favorite DIY tutorials where I show you how to hang an old window. This is a project that I get questions about all the time. It’s a pretty basic project, but it makes a huge impact on a space, especially if you are going for a farmhouse look.
I recently posted about my love for decorating with windows and all of my window ideas in my home. In that post, I shared how I decided to hang a window as a room divider. It ended up being the perfect little addition to my hallway and a way to decorate behind my couch. Double win!!
So, here is what you need to get started with this project:
- Window
- 4 eye bolts
- Hanging Wire. I just use wire like this from that I got at Home Depot.
- Measuring Tape
- Level
Step 1
Screw the bolts into the window evenly on each side. Repeat this step by screwing the bolts into the ceiling. I have wood beams above this space so it made it easier to secure the ceiling bolts. You have to measure the distance between your bolts on the window and on the ceiling in order for them to match up.
Step 2
Wrap your wire securely around the eyes of the bolts. Make sure the wire supports the weight of your window. I wrapped mine lots of times to safely secure it.
Step 3
Continue to wrap wire on all four bolts until it is safely secure. I used a level on the top of the window in order to make sure it was hanging level on each side. If you measured it correctly then it should hang perfectly. This part is a little tricky. I played around with the wire until I got it perfect.
That’s it. It instantly added so much character and charm to my space!! LOVE!!
A hanging window is a great backdrop to a couch when you don’t have a wall to decorate. Here is the other side of the window.

Absolutely LOVE IT!! And SO creative ❤ I have to ask… what paint colors did you chose for the bluish gray and beige wall colors in your open floor plan? Also do you remember which gray you used on your accenting? Looking for something very similar to this and you have tied it together so well.
