Hey friends!! I’ve been super busy around here giving both of my son’s room makeovers. If you have been following along, then you know that I just finished giving my oldest son a teen room makeover. I had so much fun with that project, but now it’s time to give my youngest son a big boy room refresh. Long story short, after he was born, we didn’t have a room for him, so we turned our walk-in attic into a bedroom. We first made this space into a nursery, but the time has come to give him a big boy room. Today, I am going to share with you how we made a few simple changes to give him a big boy bedroom that he loves!!
Attic Room Before…
Before I get to the reveal, here is a reminder of what this room used to look like. It was a walk-in attic. Even though this space was small, I knew we could make it into a unique and cozy space for him. You won’t believe what we were able to do in here. Are you ready to see it??
Big Boy Room Reveal
Can you believe this is the same room? We had a contractor come and help complete the construction. I knew that I wanted to have an accent wall along with white and bright walls. We added these grey wood boards on the back wall and some cute galvanized wall sconces. Now, this wall grabs your attention right when you walk in and adds a cute backdrop for his furniture and accessories.
Big Boy Bed and Bedding Details
Since there is a lot of wood going on, I wanted a metal bed for his big boy bed. This black metal bed was super affordable, and I love how it looks in here.
I paired it with this quilt from Beddy’s. The zip-up feature makes it so fun and simple, especially for toddlers, to make in the mornings. The comforter I chose is the Love At First White (Minky). You can see more details on this Beddy’s comforter and how it looks on my oldest son’t bunkbeds in this post.
I gave the bed a pop of color with these black pillows and black and white quilt and shams. Simple but so so cute! I finished off the new bed with a couple of leather folding benches to pull a little brown into the center of the room.
Black And White Rug
Now, let’s get to the star of the show….the rug!! I thought it would be fun to mix a few patterns together in this space. I found this Swiss cross black and white rug from Boutique Rugs and knew that was the one. It is called the Shawnee Area Rug, and I couldn’t love it more. It makes a big impact in this space and adds a fun pattern as a base to this room.
Open Pipe Shelves
Another fun feature to this room are these industrial pipe shelves. This was a super simple DIY. They added cute and functional storage to this small space. Now, it holds some of his favorite toys and books. You can see the full tutorial on how I made these shelves.
Furniture Details
Since this room doesn’t have closets, I wanted to make sure the furniture was cute but also had plenty of storage. I added this wood toned chest, dresser, and side tables to the room. This set is perfect for the rustic industrial look that I was going for in here. The colors and style help pull this space together.
The subtle theme for this room is adventure so I wanted to add some fun touches like this globe and brave banner from Hobby Lobby.
To finish off this cute big boy bedroom, I added this fun reading corner so he can sit and read all of his favorite books.
The big boy bedroom refresh was so much fun, and I am happy to say that he loves it. Below, you will find all the room details that helped pull this room together. Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today!!
