Hey guys! I’m so excited to share with you today’s post because it involved some sweet clients and all things farmhouse! Recently, I worked with a client who was moving into a new construction home but wanted that simple, cozy, farmhouse look. I knew I was going to have fun with this project, and in this post I’m going to give you some tips on how to get the farmhouse look in your home. I was able to see this home take shape from the studs and I absolutely adore how it turned out!
Here are some before pictures of the space.

I love these before pictures because it allows you to see that anything is possible with a little vision.
How We Got The Farmhouse Look
Here are some simple tips you can apply in your space to achieve that farmhouse look that is so popular these days.
1. Paint Color
I actually can’t take credit for the paint color. I love the color that my clients chose, and it just so happens to be a beautiful gray color which I love. It’s called Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams, and I would recommend this color to anyone. It’s soft and beautiful and was our first step to getting the farmhouse look. Getting a soft neutral color pallet on the walls and windows allows you to add texture and pops of color in other areas.
2. Magnolia Made Furniture
Well, duh! Anything Chip and Joanna make has farmhouse written all over it. If you have ever seen their furniture line, then you will naturally want everything. It’s amazing, but it can be a little pricey if you are on a tight budget. Luckily, my client needed a kitchen table and chairs so the Magnolia line is what we decided on. It gave her kitchen breakfast nook the most beautiful and simple look which was exactly what we were going for. I must say, I am so jealous of this space.
3. Tobacco Basket Decor
Confession. I am addicted to tobacco baskets. I use them in my own home, I sell them in my booths, and I use them in my client’s homes. They might just be my favorite piece of decor in my home. I love that you can change out wreaths for different holidays and seasons. They are large so they make a huge statement above a mantel or couch. They usually have a little wear and tear to them which adds so much character to your space. Oh, and they were actually used on farms so that naturally gives them the farmhouse look.
4. Mixing Wood Tones New and Old
I love this next space because it is filled with wood tones and items that gave this space the farmhouse look that we were going for. Distressed wood, barn wood, and natural wood. Mixing different wood types with the right touches of decor are a great way to achieve the farmhouse aesthetic.
5. Touches of Green
I’m not sure you can get a proper farmhouse look without a little greenery. I believe greenery adds so much coziness to a space, and it is a simple way to add just a touch of color. In this space I used wreaths, stems in a bottle, topiaries, and fig trees to add some touches of green.
I could go on and on with my simple tips to getting the farmhouse look, but starting with these 5 will be a great way to get you started. I’ll leave you with a few more before and after pictures to show you how far we came.
Thanks so much for allowing me to show you my tips and tricks to getting the farmhouse look. As always, I would love to chat with you so please feel free to leave a comment or let me know if you have a question or two. Have a great day my sweet friends!!

Hi there! Loveee everything in this post!! Where did you get the 2 wooden pieces that are hanging up on the wall in #4? Would love to do something like that in my home!! Can’t wait to read more of your blog!
carissa says
Hey Magaly! Thank you so much for visiting! The wood piece over the console table is from my store, but you could easily make it. I think it would be super easy to make! The other wood piece is made out of tobacco sticks. I didn’t make it but I think that would also be easy to make if you had the sticks. Hope this helps!! Have a great day!!

I am in the process of choosing a gray for the interior of my new house. I want a true gray and not one that has blue or green tints. This gray looks very nice. Do you know the color of the trim? My house is all open so the kitchen cabinets and trim will all be the same color. I am not sure whether to use white or mor of a light cream. Thanks for any suggestions you have!
carissa says
Hi there!! I really love Agreeable Gray, but I can’t remember if it has blue or green tints in it at all. Since this was a client’s house, I am not sure what color the trim is. So sorry I could not be better help. I would get a sample of this color though. I really do love it! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today!
