My master bedroom got a little summer refresh! If you know my style then you know that I love decorating with neutrals. Sometimes though. it’s fun to spice up a space with some moody tones. Moody rooms might not be appropriate for every room in the home, but since it helps make a space feel cozy, I figured my master bedroom would be the perfect spot to add some. Let’s first talk about what are considered “moody tones”? For the most part, dark blues, purples, reds, blacks, and grays are often considered moody colors. The “moodiness” of a space doesn’t have to come from dark walls though. The look can be achieved through paintings, floors, bedding, furniture, and accessories. Today, I am going to share with you 4 easy ways to add moody tones to your neutral space.
1. Add a Moody Toned Rug
One easy way to set a moody tone in a space is through a beautiful rug. I have been searching high and low for a beautiful and moody toned rug. I finally found the perfect one from Boutique Rugs. After I spotted this rug, I fell in love with the multi colors and darker tones. It is called the Ganyangan Area Rug. This rug is the perfect way to add moody tones to your space without going overboard. Love how this rug looks in my bedroom!!
2. Moody Pops of Paint
Another way to add some drama is through pops of darker colored paint. I was too nervous to paint my walls a moody color, but I could add some to my furniture and accessories. My shiplapped headboard was a great place to start. The paint color is called Cracked Pepper by Behr. This color is a beautiful charcoal color and adds the perfect pop of moody!
We also decided to carry the dark tone to this barn door, so I painted it the same color as my headboard. The colors are bold but so beautiful. Headboards, doors, and furniture are a great way to add moody tones to a neutral space.
3. Dark Pillows or Bedding
Another good place to start with moody tones is through your bedding. For the most part, my bedding is light, but I did bring the darker tones into my bedding through pillows. Although it’s not much, it adds a big punch and blends so well with my other moody touches.
4. Moody Artwork
I added this beautiful moody landscape artwork from the Studio McGee line at Target. I fell in love with this painting because it looks like a thunderstorm on a summer’s night. The colors in this painting look like they were a perfect match to my new rug. Love the boldness of this artwork and how it brought the whole room together.
So, hopefully this post helps you to not be so intimiated with incorporating moody tones into a space. Like I mentioned above, you can keep your space neutral but add some drama through rugs, furniture, bedding, and artwork. My master bedroom might just be my favorite room in my home now. I love how cozy and romantic the moody tones added to this room!
